Invisalign is a revolutionary way to invisibly straighten your teeth, which has now transformed the smiles of over 6 million people worldwide. Forget fixed brackets and wires. Invisalign uses clear, removable plastic aligners to gradually push your teeth into alignment. No-one will know you’ve even got them on unless you choose to tell them.
HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK?
Invisalign, as the name suggests, uses a series of invisible aligners. By invisible, we mean completely clear and transparent. Each aligner is custom-made to fit comfortably over your teeth. Along the inner surfaces of the aligners are small bumps and ridges carefully designed to push your teeth into straighter positions. Each aligner is worn for about 2 weeks before you switch them out for the next one in the series until your treatment completes.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF INVISALIGN?
Your Invisalign aligners are next to invisible once on.
Your Invisalign aligners are removable so eating, drinking and brushing your teeth feels exactly the same as always.
Your Invisalign aligners are smooth so you won’t endure any uncomfortable rubbing or irritation against your cheeks.
Your Invisalign aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth and use gentle push forces for a comfortable treatment journey.
WHAT DOES THE INVISALIGN TREATMENT PROCESS INVOLVE?
At your Invisalign consultation with our experienced orthodontist Chris West, we’ll discuss whether Invisalign is right for you. If it is, we’ll take pictures and a digital scan. This enables Chris to carefully plan out every step of your treatment journey using 3D imaging software, mapping out how each of your teeth will be pushed into alignment.
All of this information will be sent to the Invisalign lab in the USA where your custom-made series of aligners are manufactured. These are sent to our practice, where we’ll show you how to pop them in and take them out.
The number of aligners you’ll need will depend on the extent of your misalignment. Each aligner needs to be worn for 20–22 hours a day and should be taken out to brush, floss, eat and drink anything except plain water. This will keep your treatment on track.
Roughly every 2 weeks, you’ll move onto the next set of aligners in the series and Chris will see you every 6 weeks to check it’s all going well. Treatment takes on average 12 months but you can start to enjoy your smile with growing confidence from those first few weeks as you see your teeth move into place.
